Westinghouse - Springfields Fuels Ltd, the UK's leading nuclear fuels manufacturing site, is seeking an experienced Electrical / Electrical Control and Instrumentation (EC&I) Engineer. The ideal candidate will have experience maintaining EC&I equipment such as automated machines, switchgear, MCCs, inverters, PLCs, control valves, and field instrumentation. As an E, C & I Engineer, you will collaborate with leaders, stakeholders, and the Engineering Team to implement solutions adhering to high engineering standards, acting as the intelligent customer for new designs and ensuring compliance with regulations and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Drive improvements in the E, C&I engineering capabilities across Oxide Fuels manufacturing, providing coaching and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
2. Lead processes to identify improvement opportunities and communicate their benefits effectively to stakeholders.
3. Mentor and develop new talent through mentoring programs and apprenticeship schemes.
4. Develop EC&I maintenance routines in collaboration with equipment suppliers.
5. Ensure systems comply with regulations, standards, and procedures.
6. Provide technical support to operations and maintenance teams.
7. Manage workload and report progress.
8. Conduct plant walkdowns and witness EC&I testing.
9. Assist with loop checking, documentation, plant commissioning, and startup activities.
10. Report to management on causes of failures and recommend remedies.
11. Develop and maintain a network of engineering expertise to ensure team competencies meet business needs.
12. Operate and maintain advanced systems such as automated pellet presses, high-temperature sintering furnaces, robotic handling, automated grinding, and liquid filtration systems.
13. Ensure the safe and reliable operation of these systems.
Qualifications:
* Experience as a lead E, C & I Engineer, preferably in a material processing setting within a COMAH regulated environment.
* Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience.
* Strong foundation in electrical and automation engineering principles, with knowledge of electrical wiring regulations (BS7671).
* HND/BSc or equivalent in Electrical or Control & Instrument Engineering.
* Ideally completed an indentured Control & Instrumentation Apprenticeship.
* Knowledge of Functional Safety standards (IEC 61508/61511 & SIL levels).
* Effective communication skills and customer focus.
* Ability to manage complex and uncertain situations.
* Energetic and enthusiastic with a drive for career development.
* Experience in High Hazard Chemicals Industry, with knowledge of ATEX/DSEAR and Functional Safety (desirable).
* Membership in relevant institutions (e.g., IET) is desirable.
* Proven problem-solving skills for complex issues.
* Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies.
