Overview:
iO Associates have partnered with a specialist engineering consultancy is seeking a Principal Design Engineer to lead the development of complex mechanical systems across aerospace, defence, and high-performance technology sectors. This is a senior technical leadership role offering autonomy, cross-functional collaboration, and the opportunity to shape design capability within a high-talent team.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead 3D CAD design from concept through to detailed development
Review and approve technical drawings and design schemes
Collaborate with structural and fluids analysts to resolve design challenges
Conduct internal and external design reviews
Support the Chief Engineer and contribute to technical governance
Mentor and coach junior engineers, promoting best practice
What You'll Bring:
Expert-level experience in mechanical design and CAD (e.g. Siemens NX, SolidWorks, or similar)
Strong understanding of design for manufacture, assembly, and performance
Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams
Proven ability to lead projects and mentor others
Chartered Engineer status (or working towards)
