Job Overview
A Senior Environmental Monitoring Officer – Aquatic Scientist who leads technical work in water quality and bathing water investigations across the Environment Agency. The role is based in either Blandford or Bridgwater, with field duties and occasional travel around the area.
Key Responsibilities
* Represent the Analysis & Reporting team in technical discussions internally, externally and nationally.
* Provide technical leadership for the planning, execution and delivery of high‑profile work areas, especially bathing water investigations.
* Analyse, interpret and report multi‑functional data sets and design fit‑for‑purpose monitoring programmes using a range of techniques.
* Translate complex scientific information for diverse audiences, including public‑facing forums.
* Coach, mentor and develop less experienced staff to improve resilience and report quality.
* Maintain effective relationships and liaise with internal, external and national stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree level in chemistry, ecology, biology or a closely related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in aquatic science, preferably in a regulatory context.
* Excellent knowledge of water quality chemistry and robust statistical analysis of complex data sets.
* Experience designing and delivering water quality investigations.
* Knowledge of bathing water compliance and investigations is desirable.
