Overview
A Hydraulic Technician works in the hydraulics department, bringing expert-level knowledge and taking the lead where required. You will support and mentor colleagues, helping to raise standards across the team. You will build, assemble, install, maintain, and service both client and in-house hydraulic systems and components, and perform associated precision and general engineering tasks, both on-site and off-site, representing the company with professionalism and technical excellence. This role may require offshore/offsite work on an ad hoc basis.
Responsibilities
* Manufacture, assemble, and install hydraulic hoses and fixed tubing, including bending and manipulation to specification.
* Identify and work with all types of hydraulic fittings and threads across low, medium, and high-pressure systems.
* Carry out hydrostatic pressure testing, system oil flushing, sampling, and startup/commissioning of hydraulic installations.
* Troubleshoot and diagnose hydraulic systems, including both closed-loop and open-loop configurations.
* Read and interpret hydraulic schematics, parts lists, and documentation; complete fault reports and technical records accurately.
* Manage equipment, tooling, consumables, and materials effectively, ensuring pre-start checks and ongoing maintenance are completed.
* Provide technical hydraulic expertise, mentor colleagues, and participate in department initiatives to improve processes and efficiency.
Essential qualifications
* You have completed a recognised engineering / trade apprenticeship.
* You have previous experience in a similar hydraulic technician role.
* You can read hydraulic/pneumatic system drawings and Mechanical Engineering drawings.
* You have working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic control systems.
* You can identify all types of low, medium & high-pressure hydraulic fittings & thread types/identification.
* You have strong knowledge of current hydraulic engineering techniques and systems.
* You hold knowledge to correctly identify thread types, hydraulic fittings and components.
* You have experience of pressure testing of new systems and oil flushing / sampling.
Preferred qualifications
* Previous experience in a similar engineering job role.
* You have completed NFPC training courses in Hydraulic Engineering / Competence.
* You have experience working with closed-loop hydraulic systems.
* You have previous experience working offshore.
