We’re hiring a Yard Supervisor to join the team at Lords Builders Merchants Sudbury — a key operational role at the heart of a busy, fast-moving branch. If you understand yard operations, fleet coordination and how to keep materials, vehicles and people moving efficiently, this is an opportunity to take real ownership and make a visible impact. This is more than just supervising a yard team. It’s about running a safe, organised and efficient operation where stock flows properly, deliveries run smoothly and customers receive the service they expect every time. What you’ll be doing Supervising forklift drivers and yard colleagues to ensure safe, efficient working Coordinating the day-to-day movement and control of the branch fleet Managing vehicle availability, loading priorities and driver coordination Overseeing goods in/out processes to keep operations running smoothly Ensuring stock is stored, loaded and dispatched safely and accurately Maintaining a clean, organised and compliant yard environment Monitoring forklift checks, maintenance requirements and breakdown issues Supporting stock control and reporting low stock levels where required Working closely with drivers, customers and the wider branch team Keeping on top of health & safety, PPE and site compliance at all times Opening and closing the site and ensuring security procedures are followed What we’re looking for Experience in a yard, warehouse or operational supervisory role Background in a builders’ merchant or similar fast-paced environment Strong understanding of yard operations and fleet coordination Confident leading teams and organising workloads effectively Solid understanding of health & safety and safe working practices Hands-on approach with the ability to lead from the front Ability to stay organised and keep operations moving under pressure Strong communication skills and a proactive mindset Hours: 7am–5pm Monday to Friday, 8am–12pm alternate Saturdays Holiday: 23 days plus Bank Holidays Salary: Competitive Benefits: Discretionary bonus scheme Join a team that takes pride in doing things properly — and backs the people who make it happen.
