This post is for a Consultant Ophthalmologist with a special interest in Eye Urgent Care and Cataract Surgery. It is a permanent, full-time position offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated medic to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.
The successful candidate will provide Consultant Services in Ophthalmology at Southport District General Hospital and Ormskirk District General Hospital. The role involves working within the Directorate of Planned Care, supporting proposals to extend current facilities. The workload and clinic template align with Royal College guidance. Consideration will be given for time off in lieu due to bank holidays. Since weekend on-call duties end at 9 pm, time off in lieu is usually not required.
The job plan comprises 10 programmed activities per week:
1. 8 DCC (Direct Clinical Care: Theatre/Clinic/Laser)
2. 2x Theatre + 5x Clinics (or 4 if managerial duties are included) + 2x Patient Admin (one for admin, one for managerial duties)
3. 2 SPA (0.5 for teaching, 1.5 for CPD)
Applicants must hold Membership of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (UK or equivalent), be fully registered with the GMC, and be on the Specialist Register or expect to obtain CCT within six months of interview. CESR candidates must have GMC confirmation of successful application.
