Job Description
The City of Dover is seeking a responsible individual to join the Arena Division, performing semi-skilled work in maintaining the plumbing, electrical, and refrigeration systems of the ice-skating arena. The role includes maintenance of light equipment, carpentry repair, and construction around the arena. Candidates should have experience operating and maintaining Zambonis.
This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, working 2nd shift and possibly weekends depending on seasonal schedules. Compensation ranges from $22.03 to $31.82 per hour, with full-time benefits. The position is open until filled.
Duties and Responsibilities
These functions are considered essential and may include but are not limited to:
1. Cleaning and maintaining the arena, surrounding grounds, and arena machinery.
2. Inspecting and repairing refrigeration, heating, pumps, plumbing, electrical, and sound systems regularly; referring defects or repairs to the supervisor; cleaning equipment.
3. Maintaining records related to inspections, maintenance activities, water supply, and consumption.
4. Maintaining ice conditions through skilled operation of hand tools, mechanical tools, and power equipment.
5. Driving trucks of various sizes for loading, hauling, and unloading equipment and supplies.
6. Assisting in training and supervising employees in ice and facility maintenance.
7. Performing carpentry, electrical, and plumbing repairs and construction as needed.
8. Ensuring the security of the arena and surroundings; locking areas upon completion; remaining alert for vandalism and unlawful entry.
9. Requesting necessary supplies and equipment, maintaining inventory.
10. Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with colleagues, other departments, and the public.
11. Being available for emergency situations when needed.
12. Following safe work procedures associated with assigned tasks.
13. Performing snow plowing and removal using appropriate equipment.
14. Performing other related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements
Knowledge of general building and grounds principles; light equipment maintenance; refrigeration systems mechanics. Skills in using tools for building, grounds, and arena equipment maintenance. Ability to perform basic repairs on plumbing, wiring, lighting, and sound systems, and assist skilled tradesmen. Capable of understanding and giving clear oral and written instructions. Able to establish effective relationships with staff, departments, and the public. Proficient in writing reports and maintaining records. Capable of strenuous physical work.
Education, Licensure, and Certification
High school diploma or equivalent. At least two years of experience in building and grounds maintenance. Experience with refrigeration systems and ice maintenance machinery. Valid New Hampshire CDL-B with Air Brake and Tanker Endorsements.
