Overview
We are looking for a positive, flexible and enthusiastic AMHP to join our Core AMHP Team. The team is supportive, welcoming and knowledgeable and we’re keen to recruit someone who will contribute to this dynamic as well as being independently confident in their practice. We’re keen to promote AMHPs who can assert a socially informed, personalised model of assessment and support for those experiencing mental distress, often at times of significant crisis.
Responsibilities
* Skilled in risk management, work in partnership with people, their families, communities and interagency colleagues to identify the most appropriate options for support.
* Provide specialist support and advice to colleagues and peers across Leicestershire County Council as needed.
* Play an active role in developing the service; the successful candidate will be encouraged to contribute to ongoing service development.
* Contribute to a working pattern that promotes resilience and a positive work/life balance for core staff; flexible days/shifts within core hours; part-time arrangements typically 2 days per week on rota with 1 day administration time (TOIL opportunities).
* Work in a core team of 5 FTE AMHPs with pooled AMHPs from locality teams; operate on a rota of split shifts (08:30–17:00 or 12:00–20:00, Monday to Friday) to complete Mental Health Act considerations and assessments for Leicestershire and Rutland residents.
* Be open to experienced AMHPs but also encourage applications from diverse social work backgrounds and levels of AMHP experience.
* Perform additional tasks such as CTO considerations, social circumstances reports, Tribunal/Managers hearings, safeguarding enquiries, and other social care duties as per the job description.
* Undertake stage 3 Higher Specialist training and provide PMA support to trainee AMHPs; participate in AMHP and mandatory training programs.
* Occasionally complete Mental Health Act assessments on administration days during exceptional demand, with the aim of protecting this time as much as possible; negotiate additional tasks within agreed hours.
* Overtime and TOIL: any additional hours will be remunerated or paid back per local policy; occasional travel outside the Leicestershire and Rutland area, agreed in advance with the AMHP team manager.
* DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is required.
Qualifications
* Be a registered social worker, mental health nurse, occupational therapist or clinical psychologist and have completed the required approved mental health professional training.
* Experience of assessing a range of complex needs in mental health and/or learning disability, brain injury, and/or older and disabled adults.
* Highly developed analytical skills with experience in effective assessment and risk management; person-centred, solution-focused and resource-efficient options.
* Knowledge of social work methodologies, social care policies such as asset-based social work, and relevant legislation including The Care Act, Mental Health Act, and Mental Capacity Act.
* Confident communicator skilled in diplomacy, persuasion, assertiveness, conflict management; able to build effective working relationships.
* Ability to work proactively as an individual and as part of a team; know when to seek advice and support from others.
* Ability to supervise, coach and mentor less experienced social care practitioners.
