Based at Harwell, Oxfordshire (hybrid working)
Salary up to £31,536 (plus a £2,000 South East allowance) per annum plus a generous benefits package
Permanent, Full-Time (37.5 hours per week)

The Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) is an armed police service that’s dedicated to the nuclear industry. Given the critical nature of our work, it’s vital that we recruit skilled and committed professionals to our high-performing team. We’re now looking for an efficient Duty Planner to organise our schedules.

It takes more than highly skilled staff and officers to provide an outstanding service. We also need to ensure that our team is deployed effectively. As a Duty Planner; this vital task will be down to you. It’s a highly rewarding role that calls for a varied skillset. Every day, you’ll co-ordinate the working hours of staff and officers. You’ll use the complex Duty Management System and observe relevant legislation and industry rules. You’ll then publish schedules that show shift plans in advance. The key is to make sure we have the right number of people on duty with the right skills, at the right time.

You’ll be working independently in a busy environment. That means you’ll need excellent organisational skills to prioritise your workload. You’ll also need a keen eye for detail and excellent IT abilities. A gift for clear communication is another important skill. You should be good with people and great within a team.

This role has been assessed as suitable for hybrid working, the split will be agreed between the individual and line manager upon appointment.

Some of the responsibilities of this role include:

14. Hold lead responsibility for designated units, departments, or planning areas, using the complex DMS to prepare, publish, and maintain duty schedules within agreed timescales. This includes analysing the availability of appropriately skilled employees, ensuring operational requirements are met and maintained, cancelling rest days, allocating overtime payments and applicable reason coding, identifying where issues arise and where unable to directly resolve, escalating these
15. Interact directly with a range of Officers and Staff, responding to queries, abstraction request and additional operational requirements, providing considered advice and guidance on the operation al and budgetary impact of decisions and challenging decisions made by others, if appropriate
16. Coordinate and manage the working hours for all rostered employees, monitoring these in relation to the European Working Time Directive, taking preventative action and/or escalating to management where appropriate
17. Understand the complex and sometimes conflicting, date driven training requirements across multiple training plans for all specialisms. Scheduling and co-ordinating the forward planning of training attendance, ensuring all officers attend mandatory training within required timescales, where possible. Ensuring that officers who are unable to attend or are unsuccessful in training are removed from the appropriate duties immediately.
18. Maintain a specialist knowledge of the DMS, as well as utilising other systems, such as Chronicle, Oracle and other databases to effectively deliver the role, ensuring any issues are escalated in a timely manner.
