An exciting opportunity has arisen within Lewes and Eastbourne Council’s Regulatory Services team.
We are seeking an individual with drive and enthusiasm to join our Environmental Health Team and lead a team of professional officers. The Food team deliver our Food, Port Health and Health and Safety Service across Lewes District and Eastbourne Borough Council areas. The Port Health area of work also includes working with a new purpose built facility for a Border Control Post in Newhaven.
As a Senior Specialist Advisor you will;
1. Provide customer focused and specialist advice on a range of statutory and non-statutory services.
2. To input and deliver appropriate areas of Corporate Strategy and associated policies and plans.
3. To provide technical input to corporate projects and strategic programmes.
4. Manage a team of Specialist advisors
5. Coach, mentor and train staff
6. Handle and resolve complaints and escalated matters
7. Review and moderate reports and requests
Main responsibilities will be managing the day to day work of the team whos work includes checking and clearing consignments of imported food, food inspections, health and safety investigations, infectious disease investigations, proactive work in relation to events and sampling. Where deemed appropriate this will also include taking appropriate enforcement action.
Professionalism together with the ability to work with minimal supervision and lead a team towards shared goals is essential.
The Environmental Health team is a customer focused team primarily working with local businesses to ensure consumer protection and public health are maintained.
The work will be challenging, and you will need to be highly organised and proactive. It is important that you are comfortable working under pressure including making decisions. You will need excellent communication skills and must work well within a team. You must be proficient using IT systems.
Candidates will need a BSc Hons (or equivalent) in Environmental Health, including EHRB Registration, and a detailed knowledge of appropriate legislation.
Essential Requirements:
8. Registered Environmental Health Officer. Voting or Chartered.
9. Food Safety competency / experience.
10. Experience in the inspection of related sites.
11. Ability to undertake investigations.
