Log scaling is an NZQA accredited job, where a structured training programme can gain you a recognised qualification. You don't need previous experience in this type of role, as training is provided.
The Checkpoint is a facility where logging trucks come to have their logs measured and ticketed for export. The Log Scaler manually measures each log using an international standard, then barcodes and scans it into our system to ensure each log can be tracked.
The Checkpoint is located in Hillsborough and operates in a team environment prioritizing staff safety. Shifts can be up to 12 hours, with some weekend work, and hours may vary. The typical operating hours are between 5:45 am and 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend shifts depending on volume, so flexibility is required.
In addition to checkpoint duties, we seek someone with data entry skills to support administrative tasks at our Log Checkpoint. The main responsibility will be inputting data related to log tracking for export. The candidate should also be willing to back up as a Log Scaler when needed.
About you:
You should have strong data entry skills, enjoy accuracy, and pay good attention to detail. Good communication skills with truck drivers and team members are important. As part of the Log Scaling duties, you should be comfortable on your feet, using scanning equipment. A full Class 1 driver's license is preferred.
