Senior Electrical Tendering Engineer – Job Specification
Role Purpose
The Senior Electrical Tendering Engineer (Electrical Network & Infrastructure) is responsible for all pricing activities across the Customer Network sector, including Operations & Maintenance, Remedials, and Projects.
Acting as the central point of contact for Customer Network design and pricing, the role ensures timely and competitive responses to business enquiries and supports the continued growth of the EN&I Customer Networks division.
Working closely with Business Development, Design Engineers, and Project Managers, the Senior Electrical Tendering Engineer leads the successful production and delivery of proposals for both new and existing customers.
Key Responsibilities
Tendering & Proposal Management
1. Receive customer enquiries and complete bid/no-bid assessments in line with business objectives and in consultation with the line manager.
2. Establish initial timescales for proposal delivery to manage customer expectations.
3. Work collaboratively with Customer Network Engineers and the Design Team to develop compliant and effective project designs.
4. Produce fully costed project proposals by engaging with suppliers and subcontractors, supported by the Engineering Buyer where needed.
5. Ensure proposals adhere to all relevant electrical design standards, regulations, and best-practice guidance.
6. Secure technical and financial approvals prior to issuing proposal letters.
7. Prepare pricing for Operation, Maintenance, Repair, and Asset Replacement workstreams in partnership with Customer Network Engineers, Business Development, and administrative teams.
8. Lead pricing exercises and coordinate tender responses across the wider EN&I team.
Leadership & Team Support
9. Manage and mentor Tendering Engineers, providing guidance and technical support.
10. Review and peer‑review estimates and proposals produced by the team.
11. Contribute to the technical development of team members.
12. Ensure consistent processes and standards in the production of proposals.
Risk, Review & Handover
13. Assess project risks, issues, and potential commercial impacts.
14. Review tender documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
15. Evaluate design options and alternatives to identify optimal solutions.
16. Deliver accurate cost estimates aligned with client specifications and technical requirements.
17. Produce formal handover documentation for secured work and support handover meetings to explain scope, costs, assumptions, and clarifications.
18. Assist with project closure activities, including lessons learned reviews.
Commercial & Cross-Functional Collaboration
19. Work with the Bid Team to review contract terms and ensure appropriate commercial conditions are captured in quotations.
20. Manage the interface with Business Development to resolve competing priorities effectively.
21. Collaborate with project managers and design engineers during project handover and variation reviews.
Governance, Reporting & Administration
22. Complete all necessary company process documents, financial entries, database records, and diary updates.
23. Produce required weekly and monthly management reports.
24. Ensure full compliance with company QHSE policies and procedures.

Qualifications & Experience
31. HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
32. Experience within the DNO and non-regulated sectors.
33. Proven engineering experience in delivering technical solutions and costings in electrical and civil engineering environments.
34. Knowledge of HV & LV installations and switchgear.
35. Experience working on systems up to 33kV.
36. Strong track record of working in a customer‑focused, fast‑paced environment.
