This role will require the successful candidate to work across two sites, located close together on the Hampshire/Berkshire border. Due to the classified nature of the work involved, there are limited opportunities to work from home in this role. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will spend the majority of their time working on site at AWE. We are currently recruiting for an Environment, Safety and Health Manager with the passion, expertise and experience to support our business in its commitment to develop and maintain infrastructure that is truly fit for purpose, and that will deliver AWE's mission for decades to come. In this pivotal role, you will play a key part in supporting and influencing our ongoing site redevelopment programmes, helping to shape the facilities that will underpin our future capabilities. We don't simply construct buildings; we create environments that enable world-leading science, engineering, and national security. We are going through an exciting period of redeveloping our site infrastructure and supporting facilities. This includes renovating existing infrastructure and building new purpose-built facilities to meet our existing and future mission requirements. As a Safety & Health and Environment Manager, you will be an intelligent customer and stakeholder for AWE's conventional health and safety across these programmes. Using safe by design principles, you will work with other key stakeholders to ensure operational safety requirements and risks are identified early, thoughtfully considered and embedded into the design stages and managed throughout the project life-cycle. You'll track and manage these risks along with key process documentation throughout the project life-cycle collaborating with other key stakeholders, in line with our conventional buildings Risk Assessment processes. During project transition stage you will support the designate operational teams to ensure that all operational safety requirements are fully met, including workplace and task-based Risk Assessments - supporting a smooth path to initial then full operating capability. At every stage, your decisions will be guided by the principles of safe by design and inherent safety, ensuring that what we build today is legally compliant, effective and fit for future use. We do need you to have the following: Experience of working on conventional safety new build and refurbishment projects and influencing inherent safety design at the start. Health and Safety and Environmental Management degree, NEBOSH Diploma or Level 6 NVQ Health and Safety, or equivalent Good understanding of all conventional ESH disciplines e.g., Workplace and Process Safety, Environment, and an appreciation of nuclear site license conditions etc. Understanding of current ESH management system standards including ISO 14001, HSG65 and ISO45001 principles. Understanding of Project Management techniques, principles and terminology Understanding of current ESH legislation, standards and guidance (including License conditions) relevant to the projects. Understanding of HAZOP and other qualitative risk assessment techniques. Have the capacity to be an Intelligent Customer for conventional safety requirements. Capable of maintaining a high degree of effectiveness in a multitask role, managing priorities and delivering to challenging timescales. Ability to build and maintain effective internal working relationships at all levels to secure best solutions. Good communication and presentation skills, providing pragmatic outcomes. Able to make systematic and rational judgements based on relevant information and to evaluate solutions. Able to anticipate problems and develop innovative solutions. Able to readily adapt and respond quickly to changing situations and the changing needs of others. Demonstrate ability to lead change by embracing new and different approaches.
