About the role
If you're someone who enjoys supporting others, building relationships, and helping young people overcome challenges, a Learning Mentor role could be the perfect next step.
We’re working with a number of specialist schools across Alton and the surrounding areas, looking for caring, resilient individuals to join them as Learning Mentors on both flexible and long‑term placements.
No previous school experience? That's absolutely fine.
You don't need to have worked in education before. What's more important is your ability to stay calm, understand behaviour, and build trust with students who may need extra emotional or behavioural support.
We'll provide training, guidance, and hands‑on school experience so you feel supported from day one.
Responsibilities
As a Learning Mentor, you'll support students both inside and outside the classroom, helping them feel more confident, regulated, and engaged in learning.
This role is about far more than education - it's about helping young people feel supported, understood, and able to succeed.
* Supporting students with additional emotional and behavioural needs (often SEMH)
* Helping young people manage emotions and navigate challenges
* Building strong, positive relationships with students
* Working alongside teachers, SEN teams, and pastoral staff
* Acting as a calm, consistent, and supportive presence throughout the day
It’s also an excellent stepping stone into careers such as teaching, educational psychology, youth work, counselling, or pastoral support.
What you’ll gain
* Behaviour support
* Emotional wellbeing
* Pastoral care
* SEN and SEMH support
We’re looking for
* Sports coaches
* Psychology graduates
* Youth workers
* Support workers
* Individuals with a care background
Benefits
* Flexible and long‑term Learning Mentor opportunities
* Weekly pay from £90-£100 per day (PAYE)
* Free CPD training including behaviour support and safeguarding
* Opportunities to gain school experience before committing
* Ongoing support from a friendly, people‑first team
