Who are we looking for?
We're hiring a highly responsive, detail-obsessed HR Manager to lead and support our HR and payroll functions. This role is for someone who can run core HR operations cleanly (payroll, benefits, hiring) and also bring an advisory mindset, spotting issues early, recommending improvements, and helping our team stay steady as we grow.
This is a replacement for a prior contractor. What we need now is increased availability, stronger communication, and a clear owner who can propose process improvements, not just execute tasks.
Who You Are (Our Ideal Candidate):
We're looking for someone who meets these screen-out criteria:
- 5+ years of payroll experience with strong operational ownership
- Strong knowledge of payroll practices and compliance across federal, state, and local laws
- Flexible, detail-oriented, and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Able to interpret complex documents and respond to employee and regulatory inquiries clearly
- Experience developing training programs and supporting performance review processes
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience managing remote teams across multiple states (and ideally countries)
- EOS familiarity
- Tools You Should Already Know
- You should be comfortable working in (or learning quickly with minimal support):
- Gusto
- Upwork
- 401(k) management platforms/processes
- Google Drive
- LinkedIn
- Indeed
The Work
As part of our Operations Team, you will:
- Manage all aspects of payroll processing, including reviewing timesheets, salaries, taxes, garnishments, and deductions to ensure accurate and timely bi-weekly payroll
- Maintain the employee payroll database including new hire setups, terminations, pay changes, withholdings, and deductions
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and reporting requirements affecting HR functions
- Serve as the primary contact for employee support related to payroll, benefits, and HR policy questions
- Oversee benefits administration (including 401(k)), vacation/leave management, and required HR documentation workflows
- Lead hiring operations with input from the company leadership, including managing effective job postings, screening and organizing applicants, communicating with candidates, and leading the tactical and brand specific aspects of the onboarding process.
- Provide advisory support on team morale, cohesion, productivity, and dispute handling (with strong judgment and discretion)

Founder Rudhir Krishtel is a former law firm partner and senior counsel from Apple who left the practice to make the law a healthier practice and create the spaces to dialogue around what's most difficult, both 1:1 through coaching and in groups. He trained as a yoga instructor, mindfulness instructor, and ultimately as an executive coach, to help serve as a resource to the workplace community and improve corporate culture. Along with a group of Associate Coaches, Rudhir works with professionals individually and in group coaching environments as well as with firms and other organizations on custom workshops and group programs. We help improve their work environment, build resilience, hold and encourage difficult conversations, address our own biases, foster healthy diverse workplaces and improve overall well-being.
