FRACTIONAL HR MANAGER – 1 to 2 DAYS PER MONTH - ONGOING ASSIGNMENT
WEST SUSSEX – ROUNDED HR MANAGER WITH A FOCUS ON LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT
£400–£600 per day
Are you a fractional HR Manager looking for a part-time portfolio role where you can bring structure, confidence, and practical HR support? Do you thrive in a small, close-knit business where you can improve the basics and build a smarter L&D approach?
Hop To Talent are hiring for a privately owned business (15 people with steady growth) that wants to strengthen its HR foundations and get much more value from learning and development.
HR admin currently sits with the office/ops function, with additional support from an outsourced provider (Peninsula.) The business needs a hands-on rounded HR Manager, with a focus on L&D, who can tighten documentation, keep on top of regulatory changes, and create a simple, consistent approach to development and training.
This is a fractional role (likely 2 days per month as a starting point), with some flexibility needed for ad-hoc employee matters when they arise.
WISH LIST
* Experience running HR "end-to-end" in a smaller business (policies, processes, employee relations, practical problem-solving)
* Strong L&D capability: turning budgets into real development plans, and delivering company-wide training
* Comfortable working independently, improving what exists, and keeping things pragmatic (not over-engineered)
THE ROLE
* Review current HR setup and documentation; identify gaps and tidy up what's needed
* Keep policies and HR documents current in line with evolving employment regulation
* Provide day-to-day HR guidance on employee issues (performance, conduct, absence, general queries)
* Act as the informed "bridge" to the outsourced HR provider - asking the right questions and applying advice sensibly
* Review current HR software (BrightHR) and recommend improvements / better ways to use it beyond holiday tracking
* Improve the appraisal process (currently paper-based), including moving it online and increasing completion quality
* Support performance review cycles, objective setting, and consistency across the business
* Assist with salary benchmarking and annual pay review activity
* Help prepare remuneration/paperwork for decision-making (e.g., remuneration committee-style papers)
* Create a straightforward L&D approach: individual development plans and a simple rhythm of learning
* Design and set up company-wide training sessions (e.g., cybersecurity, health & safety, AI best practice)
* Source and coordinate specialist providers where useful (e.g., Microsoft Copilot training)
