Location: Lingdale & Boosbeck (working across both sites)

Salary: £14.35/hour
Overview
We are looking for an experienced and creative Baker who can produce exceptional homemade bakes, cakes, and desserts for both The Lingdale Tavern and The Village Slice. This role requires someone with strong technical ability, creativity, and an eye for presentation, with a focus on delivering products that are on-trend and appealing to our customer base.
In addition, during a period of maternity cover, the successful candidate will also take on management responsibilities for The Village Slice in Boosbeck, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations alongside their baking duties.
Working Hours & Rota
* Standard shift length: 7 hours 15 minutes (7.25 hours)
* Days per week: 5
* Weekly hours: 36.25 hours
* Sundays: Always off
* Saturdays: Worked alternate weeks
* When working a Saturday, you will take a weekday off in the same week to maintain 5 shifts.
* This pattern ensures a good work-life balance with regular Sundays free and alternate weekends lighter.
Key Responsibilities:
Baking & Production
* Prepare and bake a wide variety of products including cakes, desserts, pastries, scones, pies, and traybakes.
* Create innovative and seasonal specials inspired by current baking and confectionery trends.
* Deliver consistent quality and presentation across all baked goods.
* Manage stock levels and order supplies in line with production needs.
* Ensure compliance with food hygiene, allergen, and safety standards at all times.
Management (Maternity Cover at The Village Slice)
* Oversee daily operations, ensuring the café runs efficiently and to a high standard.
* Lead, motivate, and support staff during shifts, ensuring great customer service and smooth teamwork.
* Support rota planning, stock management, and ordering.
* Act as the first point of contact for customer concerns and operational issues.
* Report to senior management on performance, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
Person Specification:
Essential Skills & Experience
* Proven experience as a baker, pastry chef, or similar role.
* Strong knowledge of traditional and contemporary baking methods.
* Creativity in developing recipes and keeping up with food trends.
* Excellent organisational and time management skills.
* Knowledge of food safety, allergens, and kitchen hygiene practices.
* Strong leadership skills with experience supervising or managing a team.
* Flexibility to work across both Lingdale and Boosbeck sites.

* Professional baking or culinary qualifications.
* Experience managing a café or small hospitality venue.
* Familiarity with dietary requirements (vegan, gluten-free, low sugar).
* Ability to scale recipes and manage batch production.

* First aid training.
