Creative Writing and Storytelling Assistant
THE EMPLOYER IS: VOICING THE VOIDVoicing the Void is seeking a Creative Writing & Storytelling Assistant to support our restorative storytelling work with individuals and groups across Belfast.This role is ideal for someone who enjoys writing and creativity, and wants to help others find their voice through creative writing, spoken word, performance ideas and other creative forms. The successful applicant will support workshops and projects, help participants develop their writing, and assist with preparing material for sharing (e.g., spoken word showcases, scripts, readings, and digital/printed pieces). Mentoring and development support will be provided.This role provides hands-on experience in a creative social enterprise. The postholder will receive support to build skills in facilitation, creative project delivery, editing and preparing writing for sharing, and working ethically with lived-experience stories.
Responsibilities
* Supporting creative writing and storytelling workshops (in-person and/or online).
* Helping participants develop written pieces (poetry, spoken word, short scripts, reflective writing).
* Assisting facilitators to shape workshop plans, prompts and creative exercises.
* Capturing and formatting participant writing (with consent) into simple drafts for sharing.
* Supporting rehearsals / read-throughs for spoken word or performance pieces (where relevant).
* Liaising with participants to gather edits, final versions and permissions (where required).
* Supporting event delivery logistics connected to showcases (timings, running order, basic tech notes).
* Organising files and drafts using Google Drive / Microsoft Office.
* Supporting basic monitoring and evaluation (e.g., feedback forms, attendance).
Skills and Qualifications
* Good organisational skills.
* Ability to listen well and work respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds.
* Basic IT skills (Google Docs / Microsoft Word).
* Able to work flexibly (some evenings/occasional weekends in line with events).
* Interest in spoken word, poetry, performance or theatre.
* Any experience of facilitation, youth/community work, or creative workshops (paid or voluntary).
* Basic understanding of safeguarding / working in a trauma-informed way (training can be provided).
* Confidence speaking in a group setting.
* Strong interest in creative writing / storytelling.
