The opportunity: Zurich understands that data is a key asset. The central data team supports the business with innovative data solutions and data products across the organisation. The Data Architecture team is responsible for the end-to-end data lifecycle and setting the strategic direction for data.
The ideal candidate will design, develop and manage data architecture, ensuring efficient and secure handling of data. You will translate business requirements into workable data solutions, standards and principles to drive customer outcomes.

What will you be doing?
* Model best practice for data across the organisation.
* Embed a data-led culture at the heart of the business.
* Operate as a Data Solutions Architect to design and implement innovative data strategies across the business.
* Build and maintain strong relationships across the UK and Group to learn and influence.
* Collaborate with various domains and teams to translate business needs into robust solutions.
* Develop and maintain reference architecture that optimises ingestion, storage, processing, analytics, reporting, visualisation and data science.
* Support the CDO and Data Strategy Lead in rolling out the UK Data Strategy and roadmap.
* Provide timely, accessible, and trusted data seen as a genuine asset by customers.
* Act as a Subject Matter Expert and provide consultancy across the business and upskill data teams.
* Own governance around data; metadata management, reference data management and related architectural artifacts.
* Stay up to date with tools, frameworks and trends, incorporating them where appropriate.
What are we looking for?
* Proven practical experience in a data role with strong theory and application of data fundamentals (e.g., data engineer, data scientist, data analyst, data architect, data modeller).
* Passion for shaping data ecosystems, enabling actionable insights, and driving high-impact data solutions.
* Experience with cloud data technologies such as Snowflake, AWS and/or Azure; background with SQL Server, MySQL, Postgres, NoSQL, Oracle or Hadoop is beneficial.
* In-depth knowledge of database structures, data analysis and data mining.
* Strong understanding of data warehousing, data lakes, ETL/ELT processes and big data technologies.
* Proficiency in data modelling and data product design, including development, ETL and visualisation tools.
* Familiar with data management, governance and compliance/security needs.
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with an enquiring mind and critical-thinking ability.
* Strong communication skills and ability to sell the data story to a wide range of users, with the ability to adapt from executive summaries to detailed technical discussions.
* Appreciation of what’s involved in developing a target state and a roadmap to get there.
* Hands-on experience in a large organisation and a desire to continually learn and improve.
