Tutorial Learning Mentor

Department: Childcare & Health

Salary: £24,214 to £27,968 per annum (£27,350 to £31,590 full year equivalent)

Contract Type: Permanent - Term Time 37 hours per week

Reference: REC2278 | Closing Date: Sunday, 19th October 2025

Term Time Contracts

This contract offers full-time hours across 38 weeks of the year, primarily during term time. You will be required to work during the academic terms, with some additional duties outside of term time as needed. This structure provides a balance between a full-time role and flexibility during non-term periods.

The Opportunity

Based in our friendly Childcare and Health department, you will play an important role in helping our learners make the most of their time at college. You will work closely with course leaders to encourage learner retention and achievement; while making sure every student has access to the guidance, encouragement and resources they need to progress with confidence.

You will support a caseload of learners through one-to-one sessions, small group activities and structured tutorials. You will help our learners recognise and overcome barriers to learning by offering practical strategies, building their confidence and self-esteem, and motivating them to take ownership of their goals. You will also deliver group tutorials and study sessions, creating engaging opportunities that support academic success and personal growth.

You will be a key point of contact for our learners, parents, guardians and external agencies, working together to ensure our learners receive the right support. This will include monitoring attendance and punctuality, supporting transitions into college and between study years, and helping our learners set and review targets that keep them on track. You will also provide pastoral care, offering advice and guidance on academic and personal matters, while making referrals to support services when needed.

This is a great opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of our learners, supporting them not only in their academic studies but also in their personal development. You will be directly involved in helping learners overcome challenges, build confidence and achieve their goals, which makes the role both rewarding and meaningful.

About You

Ideally, you will be approachable, supportive and committed to helping our learners succeed. You should be confident in building positive relationships with young people and able to create an environment where they feel comfortable, valued and motivated. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will be working closely with learners, staff, parents, guardians and external agencies.

You should bring at least two years' experience of working with young people, ideally within an educational setting. Experience of teaching, delivering tutorials or undertaking pastoral care will be particularly valuable, as will experience of supporting learners on a one-to-one basis or in small groups. You should also have a background in working with a wide range of stakeholders in an educational environment, as this role requires strong collaboration to ensure learners receive the right guidance and support.

An understanding of the challenges learners may face, whether academic, social or personal, will help you provide effective guidance and interventions. A patient and encouraging manner will be important, alongside the ability to challenge learners positively and keep them engaged with their goals. Good organisational skills are also key, as you will be balancing individual mentoring, group tutorials, monitoring progress and completing the necessary administrative tasks.

Most importantly, you should be passionate about supporting learners' development and committed to making their time at college a positive and successful experience.
