Job Title: Learning Mentor Location: York, North Yorkshire Contract: Part time, Full Time, Term Time Only Start Date: September 2026 or sooner Salary: £92 – £115 per day Are you a caring, proactive, and resilient individual looking to make a real difference in the lives of young people? GSL Education are currently hiring dedicated and enthusiastic Learning Mentors to work in secondary schools across York and the surrounding areas. Whether you are looking for short-term roles, long-term placements, or a pathway into education, we can help you find an opportunity that matches your skills and career aspirations. As a Learning Mentor, you will work closely with students who may require additional support with their learning, behaviour, attendance, or emotional wellbeing. You will play a key role in building positive relationships, promoting engagement, and helping students develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed both in school and in their wider lives. Main Responsibilities as a Learning Mentor: Provide one-to-one and small group support to students who require additional help. Build strong, positive relationships to support students’ academic, social, and emotional development. Help students overcome barriers to learning and improve engagement in education. Support the implementation of behaviour support plans, mentoring programmes, and intervention strategies. Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, and external agencies to support student progress. Encourage positive behaviour, resilience, self-esteem, and independence. Monitor and record student progress, attendance, and wellbeing where required. Support students in lessons and around the school environment as appropriate. Promote safeguarding, inclusion, and equal opportunities for all learners. Learning Mentor Minimum Requirements: Experience working with children or young people in an educational, pastoral, youth work, or support role is desirable. Strong communication and relationship-building skills. A calm, patient, and empathetic approach when working with young people. Ability to motivate and engage students from a range of backgrounds. Good organisational and record-keeping skills. A proactive approach to supporting behaviour and learning needs. A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
