Job Description
We are seeking a Data Engineering Lead / Data Architect for a fast-growing manufacturer and retailer. The role involves supporting the evolution of their Data Strategy and roadmap, leveraging advanced analytics and insights to drive commercial growth. You will lead a small team of Data Engineers and BI Developers, supporting their Cloud transformation. Knowledge of Data Architecture is highly desirable, but we will also consider Senior Data Engineers looking to transition into this domain.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the design and implementation of ETL/ELT processes to ingest data from a new ERP system into Snowflake.
* Architect and develop the Snowflake data warehouse to support reporting and analytics, integrating existing SQL-Server business logic, and optimizing for performance and scalability.
* Collaborate closely with business users to understand, design, build, test, and deliver their data requirements.
* Oversee third-party providers to ensure cost-effective and optimized technologies and services, ensuring adherence to SLAs.
* Guide how the business moves, stores, and retrieves data to maximize technology efficiency.
* Design, implement, and manage BI infrastructure and services, delivering insights aligned with IT strategy.
* Act as a subject matter expert in data analytics, modeling, warehousing, and data mining.
* Ensure smooth BI service operations, acting as a point of escalation for support and technical issues.
* Work with senior stakeholders to deliver KPI reporting.
Key Technical Areas:
* Systems Architecture: Design scalable, secure, and efficient data solutions aligned with business goals.
* Business Analysis: Translate stakeholder requirements into strategic data solutions.
* Business Intelligence: Manage data lifecycle from ETL to insights, supporting trend analysis.
* IT Security: Understand and mitigate security risks.
* Effective Governance: Manage projects, policies, and stakeholder relationships.
* Service and Supplier Management: Ensure high-quality service delivery and manage external providers.
Key Skills & Experience:
Essential:
* Experience with ETL/ELT tools (Matillion preferred)
* Experience with SQL Server and Snowflake (or similar cloud data warehousing solutions like Azure or AWS)
* Knowledge of Kimball methodology for analytics and reporting
* Experience with data migration and business logic mapping
* Ability to translate business needs into solutions
* Proficiency with Power BI
Desirable:
* Experience with Business Systems reporting, including ERP
* Knowledge of MS BI stack (SSIS, SSAS)
* Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics AX or IFS
* Manufacturing and supply chain experience
* Understanding of financial principles
* Experience with KPI reporting
