We are seeking an experienced Head Cook/Chef to lead our kitchen team and deliver nutritious, varied, and appealing meals that meet the specialised dietary and cultural needs of our residents. You will play a key part in ensuring that food service is of the highest standard and fully compliant with CQC, Food Standards Agency, HACCP, and infection control regulations.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan, prepare and cook wholesome, well-presented meals for 70 residents, including special diets such as IDDSI levels, diabetic, vegetarian, allergy-specific, and culturally appropriate meals.
* Develop seasonal menus in consultation with residents, families, and the Registered Manager.
* Maintain strict compliance with food safety, hygiene and allergen regulations, including completion of all HACCP documentation.
* Manage the kitchen team, rotas, ordering, stock control, and budget.
* Ensure robust cleaning schedules and kitchen audits are followed to CQC and Environmental Health standards.
* Liaise with the clinical and care teams to adapt meals to changing nutritional needs, swallowing difficulties, and specialist diets.
* Support a positive mealtime experience, including themed days and resident engagement.
About You
* Proven experience as a Head Cook or Chef in a care home or healthcare setting – essential.
* Strong knowledge of CQC requirements, food hygiene standards, and dietary modifications (including IDDSI and allergen management).
* A passion for creating fresh, balanced, and appealing meals.
* Strong leadership, organisation, and communication skills.
* Level 3 Food Safety & Hygiene (minimum).
* Knowledge of budgeting, stock control, and menu planning.
