About Base Materials: Base Materials Ltd is a chemical engineering business operating across two sites (Whetstone & Frankley). The company specialises in the manufacture of styling, modelling and tooling materials for precision moulds, master models, jigs and fixtures across automotive, aerospace, motor sport, marine and other industrial applications.
About the role: We are seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to support, mentor and develop our growing HR team. You will work closely with the business to drive cultural change, deliver efficiencies, and support people management and development.
Responsibilities
* Provide day‑to‑day HR support, advising 1st line managers on employee relations and legislation.
* Mentor, coach and support staff across the business, building morale and confidence.
* Lead on HR strategy, policy and governance, ensuring compliance with employment law and best practice.
* Partner with senior leaders to design and deliver HR initiatives that support business performance and culture.
* Oversee recruitment and selection processes, ensuring inclusive, compliant and effective attraction strategies.
* Manage learning and development programmes, including management capability training on key people topics.
* Maintain integrity and reporting of the HRIS (PeopleHR), delivering KPI reporting and analytics.
* Lead or support complex employee relations cases (disciplinary, grievance, absence, capability, restructuring, etc.).
* Provide quality assurance on all HR documentation and correspondence.
* Act as first point of escalation for complex or sensitive HR queries and investigations.
* Ensure alignment of all HR activity with business strategy, risk management and workforce planning needs.
* Manage HR audit and compliance readiness for ISO or similar quality frameworks.
Key Competencies
* Strong knowledge of employee relations and legislation, with the ability to advise and resolve complex issues.
* Proven ability to think commercially and deliver creative, strategic HR solutions.
* Excellent mentoring and coaching skills, promoting confidence and performance across the business.
* Experience in a commercial or SME manufacturing environment with autonomy and strategic thinking.
Requirements / Qualifications
* Minimum 3 years of experience in employee relations and employment legislation.
* Experience in an SME manufacturing setting.
* Minimum CIPD Level 7 (or equivalent) required.
* Experience with PeopleHR or a similar HRIS advantageous.
* Strong administrative capability coupled with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
