We’re looking for an experienced and caring Cook to join our team within our Extra Care Scheme. This is a rewarding opportunity to support older adults in living well by providing nutritious, home-cooked meals in a warm and welcoming environment.
About the Role:
As our Cook, you’ll plan, prepare and serve balanced meals that cater to a variety of dietary needs, including allergies, dysphagia, and cultural preferences. You’ll take pride in preparing food that looks great and tastes even better, while maintaining high standards of cleanliness, food safety, and kitchen organisation.
Working closely with the Care at Home Manager, you’ll ensure meals are delivered cost-effectively and within budget. You’ll also play a key role in supervising and supporting kitchen staff and volunteers, helping to create a positive, team-focused atmosphere.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Creating and refreshing menus in consultation with residents, offering variety and nutritional value
*
Preparing and cooking meals daily, ensuring appropriate temperatures and portioning
*
Maintaining cleanliness and food hygiene standards as per regulations
*
Managing stock and placing orders in line with procurement policies
*
Supporting customer engagement by encouraging participation in kitchen activities
*
Supervising and training volunteer kitchen assistants and trainees
*
Ensuring kitchen equipment is in good working order and reporting any faults
*
Stocking tenant lounges and supporting occasional events with formal banqueting meals
Essentials:
*
Experience in a catering environment, preparing meals for larger groups
*
City & Guilds in Catering (or equivalent)
*
Confidence working independently and as part of a team
*
Ability to plan wholesome meals and accommodate special diets
*
Strong communication and organisational skills
*
Basic knowledge of stock control and kitchen equipment maintenance
Desirable:
*
Fire Safety, Moving & Handling, First Aid, or Health & Safety Certificates
*
Experience in day care or residential settings
