Job Title: Senior Food Safety & Quality Manager Location: Grantham Reports to: Technical Manager Department: Technical Job Type: Permanent Purpose of the Role To take full responsibility for all technical aspects of the designated business unit within the factory, ensuring the site consistently meets food safety, quality, customer, and legal requirements. The role will drive best practices across health & safety, technical standards, people development, and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities Health & Safety Understand and implement Pilgrims Europe Health & Safety Policy and statutory manufacturing requirements. Drive improved health & safety KPIs within the Technical Department. Support the Business Unit Lead in delivering the health & safety plan, including behavioural safety initiatives. Technical Leadership Implement, maintain, and improve HACCP-based quality systems to meet BRC and customer standards. Lead the site's Food Safety & Quality culture, driving continuous improvement across product, process, and hygiene. Conduct audits to assess and improve technical standards. Provide technical performance reporting internally and externally. Offer guidance, training, and support to other departments. Liaise with customers and statutory bodies during audits and visits. Ensure new equipment enhances technical performance. Analyse microbiological, chemical, and allergen data to drive corrective actions. Manage serious incidents and lead root cause investigations. Evaluate and implement new technologies from a technical perspective. Collaborate with central functions to maintain and develop Food Quality & Safety systems. Lead customer complaint reduction plans and streamline reporting and traceability systems. Maintain site technical integrity and deputise for Senior Food Safety & Quality Managers. Monitor and control environmental impact within the area of responsibility. Ensure hygiene standards meet business and customer requirements. People Management Foster a culture of employee engagement aligned with business values. Use forums such as Weekly Briefs and Daily Huddles effectively. Conduct appraisals and provide regular performance feedback. Hold health and wellbeing meetings with team members. Manage succession planning, recruitment, training, and development within the technical team. Continuous Improvement Establish a structured CI approach across the Technical Department. Support the Business Unit Lead in delivering improvement plans based on trend analysis. Deploy lean and CI techniques to enhance operational excellence and financial performance. Key Deliverables Achieve AA BRC grade and green status on customer standards. Meet site Technical FQI targets and Product Quality Index scores. Maintain customer complaint levels within target and implement robust reduction plans. Achieve green internal audit performance and NCN sign-off. Deliver measurable rationalisation processes aligned with KPIs. Maintain green customer scorecards. Implement competency frameworks for all team members.
