Job Description
We are currently looking for a Developer to join our Technology and Service Operations Function within the Digital and Technology group.
This is a full‑time, permanent opportunity based in 7/8 Wellington Place, Leeds, LS1 4AP. The role will support a flexible hybrid working model with a minimum of 8 days per month on site, potentially up to 12 days, with the remainder remote.
Who are we?
We are the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), improving health by regulating medicines and medical devices. The Digital and Technology Group (DTG) delivers an IT infrastructure and secure data usage to support the agency’s work, including the rapid approval of COVID‑19 vaccines.
What’s the role?
The post holder will be proficient in a wide range of technical systems, identify appropriate technology, write software, and help foster a developer community that promotes knowledge sharing and best practice.

* Write clean, secure, and well‑tested code.
* Coach and mentor junior colleagues.
* Operate services and identify issues in production.

Method of assessment: Application, Test, Interview, Presentation.

Experience Criteria
* Prioritise and define approaches to understand user stories.
* Collaborate on specifications and design, code, test and document medium‑to‑high complexity programs or scripts using appropriate standards and tools.
* Significant direct experience creating cloud‑native web applications that scale, perform, and remain secure using modern engineering best practices in an agile pair‑programming team with DevOps automation.
* Experience in systems design architecture to determine business needs and integrate systems.
Technical Criteria
* Hold a Computer Science or similar engineering degree.
* Experience with the following tools and engineering processes:
o GitHub repository, Visual Studio Code
o JavaScript, React, Next.js, Node.js, Express
o Azure services including AKS, managed databases, Azure Monitor, Blob Storage
o Artifact repositories (Nexus)
o Code analysis tools (SonarQube)
o Agile (SAFe), Definition of Done, sprints, backlog ownership through to completion
o Code reviews, pair programming, TDD, unit tests, smoke tests, integration tests
o Working with QA, UAT, support, product enhancements, bug fixes, technical debt resolution
o Developing on low‑code environments such as Appian
