Project Manager – BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems)

Role Overview
We are recruiting an experienced Site Manager / Project Manager to oversee the full lifecycle of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects — from early design coordination through to construction, commissioning, and handover.
You will act as the primary on‑site lead, ensuring all works are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in full compliance with UK regulations and technical standards. This role requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and deep experience in renewable energy, specifically BESS.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery & Coordination
Oversee the end‑to‑end delivery of BESS projects, from design to commissioning
Act as main point of contact for clients, contractors, and internal teams
Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, budgets, and resource allocations
Conduct regular project and progress meetingsHealth, Safety & Compliance
Ensure full compliance with CDM regulations and HSQE standards
Promote safe working practices across all site activities
Conduct site inspections and implement quality assurance processesSite & Contractor Management
Lead and coordinate site teams, subcontractors, and suppliers
Monitor progress against programme and ensure works align with approved drawings
Identify risks early and implement mitigation strategiesCommercial & Reporting
Manage project budgets and monitor costs
Support the QS team with financial forecasting and reporting
Provide timely updates, progress reports, and technical documentationCommissioning & Handover
Oversee testing, commissioning, and final documentation
Ensure seamless handover to operations and maintenance teams
Resolve outstanding issues to ensure complete client satisfactionPerson Specification
Qualifications & Experience
8–10 years’ experience in site or project management
Minimum 5 years’ experience within renewable energy (BESS strongly preferred)
Proven track record delivering large‑scale BESS projects
Project management certification (PRINCE2, APM) desirable
SMSTS essential; IOSH or NEBOSH advantageousSkills & Competencies
Strong leadership and people management skills
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement
Proficient in MS Project and project management tools
Strong understanding of UK grid connection, planning, and renewable regulations
High attention to detail with a commitment to quality
Strong decision‑making and problem‑solving ability
Ability to manage and analyse budgets effectively
