As part of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), GDS employs over 1,000 people across the UK with hubs in Manchester, London, and Bristol. The Senior Data Architect role will contribute to national‑scale digital impact.
Job Description
You will work in the Data Security team in the Office of the Government Chief Data Officer, collaborating with other government departments to develop and publish data security standards for government and the wider public sector. Duties include: developing standards, advising stakeholders, defining API security, exploring privacy‑enhancing technologies, and delivering presentations. You will travel to government agencies as required.
As a Senior Data Architect You’ll
* develop data security standards for government
* advise on data security for government services
* define the government API data and technical standards, including secure API design
* identify opportunities to use novel privacy‑enhancing technologies for secure collaboration
* develop data security controls for AI systems
* work in agile multidisciplinary teams with developers using tools such as GitHub and DevOps practices

* understand the balance between security needs and user access for data value
* communicate effectively with technical and non‑technical stakeholders, facilitating multidisciplinary discussions
* work with subject matter experts to develop standards, policies, and guidance
* demonstrate awareness of innovations in new tools and data uses, including privacy‑enhancing technologies
* understand data governance and ensure compliance of data solutions
* explain data modelling concepts and maintain relevant data models
* articulate the strategic context of the work and support strategic planning administratively
* design data architecture addressing security problems aligned to enterprise standards and principles
* apply data security concepts at a technical level
