Sports Services is recruiting for a motivated and customer focussed casual Fitness Instructors to join as part of the team that play a key role in transforming the Council’s approach to Sport, Leisure and Exercise. Working at one of our fantastic leisure centres across the City you will deliver inductions, sell memberships and engage with members to provide a safe, welcoming and motivating place to exercise.
This is an exciting time to be joining Sport Services. After 3 years of delivering year on year improvements we now have in place ambitious plans to ‘step up the service’ to take us to the next level. Exciting plans for capital improvement have been approved and the Service is growing in confidence and ambition to continue the next phase of transformation and improvement.

What you’ll be doing
As a Fitness Instructor, you’ll work with members to improve their physical health and wellbeing by offering training plans, which include fitness assessments, prescribing lifestyle changes, dietary considerations and health and fitness development. You’ll deliver inductions for all new members as well as devise personal workout and fitness programmes. To ensure that the environment is kept clean you will be required to undertake remedial cleaning of fitness equipment. You’ll also be required to sell memberships and support new customers to sign up online.
You’ll work with the General Manager, Assistant Manager and Leisure Centre Supervisor to ensure that appropriate fitness programmes are available for all those who use the gym.
What you’ll need
With experience of working in a health and fitness environment, you’ll have a Level 2 Gym Instructor/Fitness Instructor qualification. You’ll have ability to provide the highest standard of customer service whilst ensuring the health and safety of customers. Using your excellent communication skills, you’ll be able to motivate and engage with members to increase participation in physical activity and verbally explain techniques as well as liaise effectively with other staff and centre users.
