MBB Fractional Talent is supporting a growing multi-site SME in West Yorkshire in the appointment of a standalone HR Manager.
The Opportunity:
This is not a polished corporate HR environment.
Processes are manual. Documentation needs tightening. Managers need practical support. There is work to do.
If you are looking for a strategic highly corporate HR role, this is not it.
If you enjoy rolling your sleeves up, bringing order to chaos, and building structure where little currently exists, this will suit you. It is a genuine build and evolve opportunity.
You will:
* Take ownership of the full HR function
* Establish stronger operational foundations
* Modernise processes and systems
* Influence leadership thinking
* Create scalable people practices that support growth
This role would suit someone who enjoys building structure, thrives in practical environments, and wants to move a function forward rather than inherit a finished model.
The environment is practical, fast paced and evolving. HR processes are currently manual and require structure, consistency and operational leadership. This role will initially be tactical and transactional, with significant opportunity to shape and modernise the function over time.
The Role
You will be the sole HR lead across multiple UK locations.
Initially, this role is hands on and heavily operational. You will be:
* Managing employee relations cases directly
* Advising managers who need clear, practical guidance
* Ensuring compliance is robust and defensible
* Owning documentation, contracts and policies
* Supporting payroll coordination and core HR administration
Over time, you will have the opportunity to:
* Introduce better systems
* Reduce manual administration
* Implement automation where appropriate
* Improve reporting and workforce visibility
But first, foundations need building.
This role is fully onsite and supports multiple locations nationally.
Who We're Looking For
You will likely have:
* Experience operating as a standalone HR Manager or senior HR Advisor
* Strong, practical knowledge of UK employment law
* Confidence handling difficult conversations
* The resilience to operate without constant supervision
* The organisation to manage competing priorities
* You will not be precious about process.
* You will not be afraid of operational detail.
* You will not need a large HR infrastructure around you to function effectively.
* Experience improving manual systems
* Exposure to HRIS implementation or optimisation
* Interest in automation and AI supported HR tools
* CIPD qualifications are highly preferred but capability and experience are more important.
Compensation
* Salary £40,000 – £48,000 depending on experience
* 25 days annual leave plus statutory holidays
* Autonomy and ownership of the HR function
* Direct access to senior leadership
* Genuine opportunity to build and modernise HR
