We’re excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Psychology Graduate aspiring to become an Educational Psychologist to join secondary schools across Sunderland as a Learning Support Assistant.
This full-time role provides invaluable classroom experience supporting students with diverse needs while developing your understanding of learning, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing.

This position gives you day-to-day exposure to the world of educational psychology—ideal for graduates planning to apply for postgraduate training.
You’ll support students aged 11–18 with a variety of additional needs, including Autism, ADHD, Global Developmental Delay (GDD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), and Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) challenges.
You’ll gain experience in:
1. Applying psychological and educational support techniques such as emotional regulation and sensory integration.
2. Working collaboratively with SEND specialists, educational psychologists, and therapy professionals.
3. Using restorative and trauma-informed approaches to build positive relationships and promote engagement.
4. Developing communication, observation, and reflective practice skills essential for psychology careers.

Key Responsibilities
5. Provide 1:1 and small-group learning and emotional support.
6. Help implement and review individual education and behaviour plans.
7. Support students with emotional regulation, engagement, and sensory needs (full training provided).
8. Build supportive, trusting relationships with pupils and staff.
9. Accurately record and reflect on student progress and wellbeing.
We’re Looking For
10. A degree in Psychology or a related subject (essential).
11. A genuine interest in educational, developmental, or child psychology.
12. Experience working with children or young people (desirable).
13. Empathy, resilience, and strong communication skills.
14. Commitment to supporting students across a full academic year.
