About the Project:
Our client, a leading UK contractor, is delivering an exceptional, high-specification landscaping package at a prestigious private estate in Berkshire. The project features a complex blend of formal and naturalistic elements, including specimen trees, pleached alleys, extensive orchards, intricate ornamental planting schemes, water features, and sustainable urban drainage systems (SuDS). The design by a renowned Landscape Architect requires meticulous attention to detail and the highest standards of execution.
The Role:
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Site Manager to take full operational control of the on-site delivery for this prestigious project. You will be the key point of contact on the ground, responsible for turning detailed technical designs into a world-class finished landscape, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
* Project Delivery: Take full ownership for the day-to-day on-site management, coordination, and delivery of all hard and soft landscaping works.
* Technical Interpretation: Meticulously interpret and implement complex landscape drawing packages and detailed plant schedules, ensuring absolute adherence to design intent and specification.
* Programming & Planning: Develop and manage short-term programmes, ensuring efficient sequencing of works, from setting out and groundworks through to final planting and snagging.
* Supply Chain Management: Liaise with and manage specialist nurseries and subcontractors to ensure timely delivery of high-quality materials, including sensitive and high-value specimen plants.
* Quality Control: Conduct rigorous quality checks on all incoming materials and workmanship against the project specifications. Champion a right-first-time approach.
* Health, Safety & Environmental Leadership: Enforce the Project Health and Safety Plan and ensure full compliance with regulations. Maintain impeccable site standards.
* Team Leadership: Lead, motivate, and direct the site-based operatives and subcontractors to achieve project milestones.
* Stakeholder Liaison: Act as the primary day-to-day contact for the Client, Landscape Architect, and Project Manager, providing clear progress updates and swiftly resolving any site queries.
Essential Experience & Qualifications:
* Proven track record of successfully delivering high-value landscaping projects (£4 million+).
* Extensive experience working from highly detailed Landscape Architect packages, with an expert ability to read technical drawings and schedules.
* Strong horticultural knowledge, with experience managing the installation of specimen trees, complex plant mixes, and formal elements (hedges, pleaching, topiary).
* First Aid at Work certification.
* Full UK driving licence.
* Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
* Commercially aware with a strong focus on delivering projects on budget.
Desirable Experience:
* Experience working on projects within the private estate / high-end residential sector.
* Relevant horticultural or construction-related qualification (e.g., HND, Degree, NPTC certificates).
* Temporary Works Supervisor qualification.
* Experience with water features, irrigation systems, or SuDS implementation.
