Job Description
About Nexus
Nexus is a cutting-edge deep tech startup emerging from Imperial College London, positioned at the intersection of advanced manufacturing and artificial intelligence. We're solving the billion-pound challenge of metal 3D printing qualification and certification that has limited the industry's full potential. Our proprietary technology transforms complex sensor data into real-time actionable insights, enabling manufacturers to dynamically adapt and verify their processes with unprecedented precision.
Founded by a team of experts in AI, materials science, and additive manufacturing, we've already secured partnerships with industry leaders and are backed by investors who believe in our vision to fundamentally transform how critical components are manufactured.
The Opportunity
This is not just another software role — this is your chance to redefine manufacturing.
We're looking for a full-stack engineer who loves living closest to the user: someone who can architect and build across the entire stack, but finds their greatest satisfaction crafting intuitive, high-performance interfaces. You'll own the frontend experience end-to-end while collaborating closely with our backend and data science teams — bridging complex sensor data and AI outputs into tools that engineers actually want to use.
Your work will directly enable aerospace, medical, and automotive manufacturers to produce mission-critical components with unprecedented precision and reliability.
Core Responsibilities
· Own the frontend architecture and lead UI/UX decisions — translating rough concepts and customer requirements into polished, functional interfaces with minimal design handoff
· Build and maintain full-stack features using React, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript frameworks on the frontend, integrated with our C++ and Python backend systems via well-designed APIs
· Collaborate with data scientists to visualise complex 3D printing data and sensor streams in real-time — including point clouds, 3D models, and live process metrics
· Design and develop robust APIs connecting frontend interfaces to backend services
· Participate in customer interviews to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications
· Optimise application performance for large, data-dense workloads including real-time sensor streams and 3D model rendering
· Implement robust error handling and monitoring systems for production environments
· Create wireframes or mockups to communicate ideas and iterate quickly with the team
Required Expertise
· Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in computer science, engineering, or a related field
· 3+ years of hands-on experience as a full-stack developer, with the majority of your time spent on frontend
· Deep proficiency in TypeScript and React; comfortable with at least one compiled language
· Strong visual design sense and meticulous attention to detail in UI implementation
· Solid understanding of WebSockets and real-time data patterns
· Experience with frontend testing (e.g. Jest, React Testing Library)
· Ability to make architectural decisions balancing performance, maintainability, and development speed
· Exceptional problem-solving skills with a bias toward practical, shippable solutions
· Eligible to work in the UK
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience with 3D visualisation libraries (Three.js, WebGL)
· Proficiency with design tools (Figma, Sketch, or similar)
· Experience designing data-dense or technical interfaces, particularly for AI/ML or scientific applications
· Knowledge of data streaming concepts for real-time visualisations
· Portfolio demonstrating both design thinking and implementation — GitHub, case studies, or live projects
· Familiarity with cloud deployment and containerisation
· Exposure to backend work with C++ or Python (a bonus, not a requirement)
· Knowledge of HDF5 or experience handling very large scientific datasets
Why Join Nexus
· Impact: Your work will directly enable more sustainable, efficient manufacturing of critical components
· Innovation: Work at the bleeding edge of both AI and advanced manufacturing
· Ownership: As a senior member of a small team, your frontend decisions shape the entire product experience
· Team: Join a diverse, multi-disciplinary team of experts passionate about solving meaningful problems
Benefits:
· Competitive salary
· Comprehensive healthcare package
· 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
· Central London location (4 days in-person, 1 day remote)
· Regular team events and learning opportunities
Application Process
· Submit your CV (max 2 pages) and a brief cover letter explaining your interest to careers@nexus-am.com
· Include links to your GitHub, portfolio, or any relevant work — we're especially interested in examples of frontend craft
· Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis; expect to hear from us within 7 days
Our interview process is streamlined to respect your time:
· Initial conversation with founders (30 min)
· Technical discussion with the team (90 min)
· Final meet-the-team session (60 min)
