About the role

Balfour Beatty have created iconic buildings and infrastructure all over the world over the past 115 years redefining excellence and setting the industry benchmark with every project. As a result, alongside several consortium partners; Balfour Beatty have been selected by bp (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage which is a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK's first decarbonised industrial cluster. Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Quality Manager to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.


Responsibilities

* Provide functional leadership to Project quality resources and act as the quality expert practitioner to support project delivery.
* Ensure Project plans for delivering products and services right first time that meet requirements every time and drive Defect Free Delivery and reduce the Cost of Quality.
* Provide leadership to project quality resources to deliver the project and BBUK quality strategies.
* Ensure Quality Plans and associated processes are in place to deliver right first time to client specification and provide training and support as required.
* Ensure quality processes meet or exceed the requirements of the BMS, with amendments clearly stated in Project Quality Plans.
* Ensure appropriate inspection and test plans (ITPs) are in place and systems to clearly agree and deliver specifications with customers, customers' technical representatives, project teams and sub-contractor supply chain.
* Establish and agree sample and benchmark plans with customers and sub-contractors.
* Undertake assurance that Quality Plans are followed and requirements are met.
* Ensure Project KPIs and metrics drive continuous improvement; support delivery of project and Business Stream quality programs and actions.
* Coach and develop quality skills on the project and support establishment of a continuous improvement culture.
* Undertake investigations and/or report on quality related issues as required.
* Live the Balfour Beatty Values with a relentless focus on Zero Harm and Defect Free Delivery; support the delivery of the Sustainability Blueprint.


Qualifications & Requirements

* The ability to provide leadership and build strong relationships with delivery teams and project managers.
* Substantial practical experience in quality management in construction or manufacturing.
* Ability to coach and develop staff in key quality management skills and build a quality management framework & KPI measurement.
* Demonstrated root cause analysis and problem resolution capability.
* A formal qualification in Quality Management (e.g. Diploma in Quality Management or equivalent).
* Preferably trained ISO 9001 Lead Auditor and/or Internal Auditor.
* CQI Member or working towards membership; working knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma.
* Essential qualities/experience: ability to gather, analyse and evaluate facts; attention to detail; strong reporting skills; excellent interpersonal/communication skills; professional independence; influence across senior management; self-starter; audit mindset; ability to work in a multi-discipline team; respect across the project; relationship building and resilience; knowledge of construction industry or project-based work.
* Desirable: previous experience of managing a team.
