Haematology and Phlebotomy Quality Manager (Band 7): An opportunity has arisen for the Haematology and Phlebotomy Quality Manager to join the dynamic, evolving team within Cardiff and Vale Health Board's Haematology department.
The department is looking for a Biomedical Scientist (Registrar with the HCPC) by IBMS Certificate of Competency (or pre-2004 equivalent) and an appropriate postgraduate qualification.
The Haematology department is one of the largest in the UK, offering analysis using Automated Haematology, Haemostasis and Thrombosis, Immunophenotyping, Haemoglobinopathies, and Phlebotomy, processing over 50,000 samples each year. The laboratory is accredited by UKAS ISO15189:2022 and is an approved training laboratory (by the IBMS). Training and development opportunities are available, and all staff are encouraged to engage in continuing professional development.
Previous experience in the NHS is essential. The ability to speak Welsh is ideal; Welsh speakers and/or candidates are welcome.
Main duties of the job
The Quality Manager will have delegated responsibility for the implementation, maintenance, and development of the Haematology Quality Management System (QMS). This includes training, supervising, and supporting the Quality Officer and Quality Leads within specialist areas of Haematology—Automated Haematology, Haemostasis and Thrombosis, Immunophenotyping, Haemoglobinopathies, and Phlebotomy.
They will facilitate the daily operation of the QMS to ensure compliance with current legislation, regulations, and accreditation standards. The role involves providing training in the QMS and quality assurance, advising on clinical governance and risk management, and leading the coordination of management reviews, regulatory, and accreditation reports, including the annual UKAS application and other health board/departmental quality requirements.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Special Knowledge
* Experience participating in regulatory inspections and assessments

* Experience with internal controls such as risk management, change control, and document control
* Knowledge and understanding of regulatory and accreditation bodies related to NHS laboratories
* Experience with health and safety requirements in a laboratory setting

* Educated to MSC level or relevant healthcare-related degree supplemented by equivalent experience
