Job Description
Founded in 1682, the Royal Hospital Chelsea is a retirement community for around 300 army veterans, known as the Chelsea Pensioners, drawn from every corner of the United Kingdom. Based in the heart of London, it is a special place defined by community and service.
We are seeking an experienced and proactive HR Manager to join our Human Resources Department. Reporting to the HR Director, you will lead the day‑to‑day operational delivery of HR services and play an influential role in shaping the organisation’s people strategy.
In this key role, you will ensure that recruitment, employee relations, pay and pensions, learning and development, and wellbeing activities operate efficiently and to a high standard.
You will lead and support a dedicated HR team, fostering a collaborative, high‑performing, and solutions‑focused culture. As a trusted partner to senior leaders, you will provide expert HR advice, ensure legal compliance, review and embed HR policies, and contribute to strategic workforce planning across the organisation.
The role also includes managing complex employee relations matters, producing clear and meaningful HR metrics and reports, and driving the implementation of a revised performance management framework that supports effective objective setting, constructive feedback, and ongoing development.
To succeed in this role, you will bring strong HR management experience, excellent communication skills, sound judgement, and the ability to work effectively with colleagues at all levels. You should have a solid understanding of employment law and experience in a senior HR role or business‑partnering capacity, with proven ability to manage priorities in a busy environment. A degree or equivalent experience, along with CIPD membership at Level 5–7, is expected.
If you're enthusiastic, motivated, and eager to make a difference while working in a historic and rewarding environment, then we invite you to join our team.
