We are looking for a talented frontend developer to join the Chemical Biology team at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI), located on the Wellcome Genome Campus near Cambridge, UK.
The role primarily involves developing web-based applications and interfaces for the Chemical Biology team resources (ChEMBL, SureChEMBL, UniChem). Responsibilities include development, maintenance, documentation, and supporting the usage of these tools within EBI and externally, along with requirement gathering and use-case development.
EMBL-EBI, part of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), is a world-leading bioinformatics centre providing biological data, expertise in data storage, analysis, and representation. It offers freely available life science data, conducts computational biology research, and provides extensive training programs for researchers in academia and industry.
Your role
As a Frontend Developer, you will be responsible for:
1. Developing and maintaining web-based applications and interfaces for the Chemical Biology resources (ChEMBL, SureChEMBL, UniChem).
2. Documenting these applications to support users.
3. Collaborating with stakeholders to gather requirements and define use cases.
4. Implementing best practices for software development, deployment, and automation.
You have
* A degree in computer science, software development, or a related field
* Several years of professional experience in front-end development
* A track record of delivered projects involving web interfaces
* Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks (e.g., Vue.js)
* Experience in Python programming
* Familiarity with search engines like Elasticsearch
* Knowledge of SQL databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL)
* Experience with CI/CD workflows, particularly GitLab
* Experience working with Linux systems
* Familiarity with containerisation (Docker) and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes)
You may also have
* Experience implementing data visualisations
* An interest in life sciences (a plus)
