Help us create a better future, quicker

At SP Energy Networks our focus is on harnessing technology and innovation to create the networks of the future. Our team is building a dynamic network to meet the changing demands for electricity and increasingly, renewable electricity - safely, securely and sustainably in the communities we serve.

A Trainee Site Manager at SP Transmission plays a pivotal role in the delivery of major transmission infrastructure projects across Central and Southern Scotland.

What you’ll be doing

During the 18‑24 month programme, you will undergo extensive on‑the‑job learning‑shadowing experienced managers across overhead lines, substations, cable networks, civil works, and electrical installations‑while simultaneously working toward a CIOB Certificate and Diploma in Site Management.

This pathway suits individuals with supervisory experience in the transmission sector, possessing technical knowledge and a track record of leading teams or works packages. On the other hand, qualified candidates lacking experience, such as those with electrical, civil engineering, or construction management qualifications, will benefit from on‑the‑job learning, coaching, and mentoring from seasoned Site and Construction managers. The duration of the development will vary based on individual qualifications, with successful candidates from both pathways expecting the programme to take between eighteen months to two years for completion.

Your responsibilities include planning, coordinating, and monitoring contractor activities on site, establishing and maintaining a robust safety culture, and overseeing construction and commissioning stages. You will ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards (including inspections, material testing, daily progress records, and weekly progress meetings), manage design change processes with engineering teams, and interface with operational staff like protection engineers and senior authorisers. Upon successful completion, trainees are expected to be fully capable of stepping into a Site Manager role, fully equipped to coordinate large‑scale projects, manage multi‑disciplinary teams, and ensure timely delivery within SP Transmission’s drive toward a sustainable, Net Zero energy network.

At SP Energy Networks, we know people are central to building a better future, quicker and we are seeking new talent to join our team.

What you’ll bring

As a Trainee Site Manager, we are in search of individuals who are enthusiastic about acquiring new skills and advancing in their careers. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in the Construction and Utilities sector at a supervisory level, who have been involved in construction projects or have obtained a degree in Electrical, Civil Engineering or Construction Management, and possess a valid driving licence. We provide two distinct pathways tailored to candidates experience and background. For candidates with practical experience, the successful candidate will participate in a development program for supervisors or less‑experienced managers, in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Builders (CIOB).

What’s in it for you

As well as a competitive salary which is reviewed annually, you can also enjoy a number of other benefits. With our pension scheme, the company will contribute double your contribution amount (to a maximum of 10% contribution from the company).

At ScottishPower, we believe it’s the little things we do in life that make a big difference.
