Brief Description / The Role
The railway has seen nearly 200 years of technology and innovation. Technology is transforming the railway industry. This role supports our Oracle Application Express (APEX) platform and various Java applications; experience in APEX, PL/SQL and Java is required. You will design, develop and maintain customisations and extensions to supported applications and provide technical guidance to IT and business teams.
What will you be doing?
* Design, develop and maintain customisations and extensions to the supported applications as required by project and production support teams
* Analyse and tune existing customisations and provide accurate documentation that conforms to Network Rail Standards
* Assess the impact of patches and technical upgrades on customised code and provide solution options
* Resolve support issues within the production environment as required
* Identify and develop code to be used in a common code library
* Provide technical advice and consultancy to IT and the business
The ideal candidate / Essential
* Development and implementation experience in the application/technology supported
* Strong design skills; collaborates with analysts and technical support to explore design options and meet business requirements
* Ability to manage activities with short due dates while following change control processes
* Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
* Identified Subject Matter Expert within a technical area (e.g., middleware, Oracle, Microsoft, mobile, ERP, Java)

* Understanding of project lifecycles
* Commitment to meeting deadlines
* Ability to prioritise and manage time effectively
