Prospero Teaching is seeking a compassionate and flexible Learning Mentor to support students within a specialist alternative provision at a secondary school in Southsea. This full-time role offers a rewarding opportunity to work closely with KS3 and KS4 learners who thrive in a personalised and nurturing educational setting.
This position is offered on a full-time basis, with the potential to transition into a permanent role.
About the Role
As an Alternative Provision Learning Mentor, you’ll play a vital role in helping young people re-engage with education. Working alongside teaching staff, you’ll support the delivery of functional English, Maths, and Science, while fostering emotional well-being, resilience, and personal development.
Key Responsibilities
1. Supporting the delivery of functional skills lessons in English, Maths, and Science for KS3/KS4 students
2. Creating a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment
3. Providing tailored support for students with SEMH, autism, ADHD, and other additional needs
4. Collaborating with teachers, support staff, families, and external agencies
5. Monitoring student progress and contributing to individual learning plans
6. Promoting positive behaviour and emotional regulation
7. Encouraging confidence, independence, and self-esteem
What We’re Looking For
8. Experience working with young people in alternative provision, SEN, or mainstream settings
9. Strong understanding of behaviour support and differentiated learning strategies
10. A calm, empathetic, and adaptable approach to engagement
11. Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education
12. Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development

13. Right to work in the UK
14. Enhanced child barred list DBS certificate (or willingness to apply)
15. References available upon request
16. Up-to-date safeguarding training (or willingness to complete)
