Salary: £34,434–£39,152 + SNA 1 (FTE) / £29,651–£33,714 + SNA 1 (pro‑rated, term time only)
Hours of Duty: 36 hours per week, term time only

Acer Academy is a specialist SEMH and ASD school with excellent facilities and a strong commitment to inclusive, relational education. We are seeking a dedicated and adaptable Learning Mentor / Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our team.
This role offers the opportunity to make a real difference to pupils who experience barriers to learning, supporting them both academically and emotionally to reach their full potential. The successful candidate will deliver targeted interventions, work closely with families and external agencies, and play a key role in maintaining calm and consistent routines. A crucial part of this position involves covering lessons as required, ensuring continuity and stability for pupils.
Key responsibilities
* Plan and deliver 1:1 and small‑group interventions to support pupils’ academic, social, emotional and communication development
* Build positive, trusting relationships to promote engagement, confidence and regulation
* Work collaboratively with the Assistant Headteacher, Inclusion Manager and pastoral team to identify and address barriers to learning
* Support pupils’ reintegration following periods of absence or dysregulation
* Make contact with parents and carers, and carry out home visits under the direction of the Inclusion Manager
* Liaise with teachers and external agencies to coordinate effective support
* Step in to cover lessons in the absence of a teacher, maintaining a calm, structured and supportive learning environment
* Contribute to the school’s Personal Development and SMSC curriculum, promoting wellbeing, life skills and inclusion
We are looking for someone who:
* Has experience working with pupils with SEMH and/or ASD needs
* Understands trauma‑informed and relational practice
* Can lead learning and manage classrooms confidently when covering lessons
* Is organised, reflective and able to adapt approaches to meet individual needs
* Has excellent communication and teamwork skills
