About this role
This opportunity will be based in one of our Australia offices - exciting opportunity to relocate!
Joining the National Quality and Excellence Department, this Independence and Quality Manager role focuses on applying the independence requirements of professional standards by supporting and advising various business units within the firm.
Audit firm independence is critical, drawing attention from regulators, media, and the public, and plays a vital role in protecting Grant Thornton's reputation.
The role involves ensuring an effective independence quality control framework, assisting partners and staff with independence policies, maintaining compliance systems, providing training, and fostering consultation.
We seek a passionate, innovative individual to use their technical expertise to consult across multiple areas, helping us uphold the highest standards in quality and risk management.
Key responsibilities
The role offers support to a dynamic business through internal consultations and compliance monitoring with regulatory and internal independence standards. Reporting to the Head of Independence & Quality, key duties include:
* Advising on regulatory independence requirements related to non-audit services, personal independence, and business relationships, ensuring compliance with IESBA Code of Ethics/APES 110, SEC regulations, and the Corporations Act.
* Understanding services provided by the firm to manage and monitor compliance, including client acceptance and conflict checks.
* Updating policies, tools, guidance, and processes to align with global and local standards, and incorporating best practices and innovative solutions.
* Developing and delivering training on risk management and independence, and participating in quality and independence monitoring programs.
* Supporting external regulator inspections and global quality review processes.
* Building strong relationships with stakeholders and teams across the firm.
* Exhibiting strong attention to detail, critical thinking, problem-solving, and multitasking under pressure.
Skills & experience

This role is ideal for someone eager to advance their career in our Quality and Excellence Team, bringing innovative ideas and a passion for regulatory environments. You should have:
* Experience in an independence quality team or audit within a Big 4 or mid-tier firm.
* Technical knowledge of independence rules, including APES 110, IESBA, the Corporations Act, EU PIE rules, and SEC regulations.
* Understanding of independence technology platforms for managing non-assurance services and client onboarding.
* Strong organizational, troubleshooting, research, and analytical skills, along with excellent communication and a self-driven attitude.
* Relevant tertiary qualifications.
