We are looking for an apprentice developer to join Torbay Council as a Level 4 Software Developer apprentice. You will support the design, development, and maintenance of business applications using Microsoft technologies.
What will you do?
* Support the design, development, and maintenance of business applications using Microsoft technologies (C#, .NET, SQL Server, Azure, and more).
* Write and test code, help design new features, and support users.
* Learn about databases, data security, and how to keep information safe.
* Get involved in research, problem‑solving, and teamwork.
* Attend college one day a week to build your skills and knowledge.
* Enjoy a supportive environment with coaching and mentoring.
Key responsibilities
* Write and test code and maintain applications.
* Collaborate with experienced IT professionals and friendly colleagues across the council.
* Help make a real difference to how our services run for the people of Torbay.
Qualifications
* Basic programming concepts – variables, loops, conditionals, functions.
* Introductory C# knowledge – syntax, data types, simple classes.
* Basic HTML & CSS – understanding structure and styling of web pages.
* Basic JavaScript and SQL knowledge.
* GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
* Level 3 qualification in IT or related subject (or equivalent experience).
* Experience working as part of a team (school, college, or voluntary work).
* Willingness to study for a Level 4 Software Developer Apprenticeship.
Essential attributes

* Good communication skills – asks questions, shares progress, listens well.
* Team player who collaborates respectfully and reliably.

Bonus points
