New Directions is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Learning Mentor to join this exceptional secondary specialist provision. The successful candidate will support students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, working across all curriculum areas to assist teaching, learning, and personal development.

The role involves working closely with students who experience anxiety, mental health needs, and other additional challenges, helping them re-engage with learning and build confidence at a pace that suits them. This position is ideal for someone who is patient, nurturing, and committed to empowering vulnerable young people to achieve their full potential.

About the School

The school is a specialist education provider supporting some of the Wirral’s most vulnerable young people and is widely recognised for its nurturing, personalised, and inclusive approach. Staff work tirelessly to ensure that every student feels valued and understood from the moment they arrive, placing a strong emphasis on emotional well-being and creating a safe, calm environment where young people can thrive.

A dedicated pastoral team works alongside teaching staff to identify barriers to learning and provide meaningful, targeted support. Students benefit from a curriculum that is flexible, creative, and tailored to a wide range of individual needs, ensuring that no learner is left behind. The school also offers a rich enrichment programme designed to build confidence, encourage teamwork, and develop essential life skills.

Staff maintain close, supportive relationships with families to ensure a consistent approach and a smooth pathway of support. A culture of high expectations—balanced with empathy and understanding—runs through every part of school life. Learners are encouraged to celebrate their successes, reflect on their progress, and develop the resilience they need to face new challenges.

The school’s commitment to trauma-informed practice ensures that all students receive compassionate, structured, and consistent support. Above all, the school is driven by a deep-rooted commitment to helping young people overcome barriers, develop independence, and move towards positive and successful futures.
