Brakes is recruiting for an on-site Canteen Cook to join our team at the Ashford, Kent office.
Reporting to the Facilities Team Leader, you will manage the canteen-style restaurant for our on-site colleagues, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in line with our health & safety policies. You will provide kitchen support for food shows and presentations, and be responsible for creating menus and accommodating dietary requirements for over 100 colleagues daily.
This full-time, permanent role offers a salary of £27,000 per annum. Working hours are Monday to Friday, between 07:00 and 15:00, with no bank holidays.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage kitchen operations
* Create, cook, and present menus for high-volume and buffet services
* Develop cleaning schedules for all kitchen areas
* Stay updated on current food trends
* Understand allergens and allergen control procedures
* Check and manage product/food deliveries and storage
* Oversee daily kitchen activities
* Coordinate with the facilities manager on food-related issues
* Conduct daily fridge/freezer temperature checks and record results
* Support front-of-house (FOH) team on-site
You should be an experienced chef with a background in high-volume commercial kitchens, familiar with food safety and hygiene standards. Strong planning, organizational skills, and the ability to work under pressure are essential. Good communication skills and proficiency in Outlook, Word, and Excel are required. NVQ or City & Guilds catering qualifications and a Food Handlers hygiene certificate are advantageous but not mandatory.
