Route Services is a division of Network Rail that provides the Routes with services so they can help Network Rail deliver a better railway for a better Britain.We support the Routes with a myriad of services and supplies they need to maintain and operate the railway To learn more, please click here to watch our video.
This role sits within
Supply Chain Operations (SCO)
, an area of the business which supplies and delivers the logistics, materials, components, rail and road fleet that enable the maintenance and renewal of the railway.
SCO keeps the materials, machinery and components required by its customers moving – making sure they are on-site when needed so work can go ahead as planned and on schedule. Watch our video Working in Supply Chain Operations

About The Role (External)
Lead day to day depot activities, manage personnel and associated productivity, safely and effectively. Direct the team with a view to continual improvement in business performance, process and overall efficiency.
Key Accountabilities
* Oversee and promote the safe and efficient delivery of work activities; associated productivity, resource and production targets
* Management, motivation and leadership of in house and contracted staff
* Provide input to the planning process regarding shunting, allocation of resources and stock control.
* Maintain a strong safety culture in all staff and across the depots and work sites.
* Take responsibility for all site safety issues and carry out safety inspections and checks in line with the current standards.
* Assist in local investigations where required and follow up identified actions.
* Lead the identification of and manage the implementation of safety, quality and efficiency improvement initiatives.
* Ensure that all site paperwork is up to date and accurate including periodic reporting
* Represent the team at all appropriate business meetings, workshops and briefings as required by the Area Manager
Essential
Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications
* Hold and retain competencies relevant to this post, required by the business need.
* Able to manage a team and motivate team members
* Knowledge of depot safety rules and regulations
* Knowledge of factors and activities critical to site management
* Knowledge of relevant railway geography and network capability
* Able to work under pressure
* Able to evaluate complex factors and make decisions to maximise benefit to Network Rail
* Good communication skills and a customer focussed approach
* Computer literate

Personal Track Safety (PTS) is a set of safety regulations and procedures that individuals must adhere to when working on or near the tracks of the UK rail network.
Drugs and Alcohol Standard:
For some of our roles all prospective external candidates offered a conditional role will be required to undergo and pass a drugs and alcohol test. Your application will be rescinded if you record a positive test. All positive drugs and alcohol test results for prospective candidates will be securely held on Sentinel database and a 5 year suspension from applying for a safety critical role, a role which requires PTS certification or a Key Safety role on Network Rail Managed Infrastructure will be enforced.
