We are currently recruiting for a Climate Change and Sustainability Senior Programme and Policy Officer in Stormont. The successful candidates will be required to start once the vetting paperwork, ANI clearance has been completed.

Key Responsibilities:
The postholder will: • Support the Head of the Unit in the development and delivery of a new Climate Change Response Programme 2025-2030 for the Department of Justice to meet its statutory responsibilities under the Climate Change (NI) Act 2022 and the Climate Change Act 2008. • Progress the delivery of the department’s Outline Sustainability Strategy,2023 through the annual action plans as it supports the Climate Change Programme. • Oversee the programme of work to deliver the sustainability actions within the Department’s Asset Management Plan 2024-2029. • Create a database of information ondepartmental carbon consumables are related information. • Deliver a Staff Engagement and Education Programme Written Work There is a significant element of written work in this post. Briefings to the Minister on Executive papers on Climate Change (which are regular), briefing notes to the respective Chairs of the Asset Management Board and Climate Change Strategic Oversight Group. SMT and Management Board papers. AQs and other Ministerial correspondence. Departmental returns to DAERA and the other Sector lead departments on Climate Change; including the department’s contributions for inclusion in the NICAP. The postholder will provide first drafts of the above for the Head of Unit
Essential Criteria applicants must have:
The minimum level of formal qualification required is a a bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification. The role holder would be expected to have at least 1-2 year’s experience, as follows:
• Experience andconfidence in engagement, working with internal and external stakeholders, building strong relationships with, and influencing senior officials on complex policy matters.Strong collaboration skills, working effectively across the Department, Arms-Length Bodies and with other Departments to deliver shared outcomes,
• Leadership and staff management skillsthe ability to manage and motivate staff;
• Knowledge ofgood practice in corporate governance, legislation and operational policy to provide advice to the Head of the Unit on any proposed policy changes to the Departmental Climate Action Plan;
• Strategy skills, ability to be creative and deliver excellent analysis of complex issues and make effective decisions;
Negotiating and influencing skills to engage with stakeholders and generate commitment to goals,
Ability to work flexibly in a new and evolving area of work,
Discretion and diplomacy,
Ability to work on own initiative to progress targets within challenging timescales,
Financial management skills,
Effective communication (oral and particularly written skills) and presentational skills.
