Primary School Learning Mentor
Job Purpose:
The Learning Mentor will work closely with pupils, teachers, and families to remove barriers to learning, support emotional well-being, and help children reach their full potential both academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide one-to-one and small group mentoring to pupils, offering guidance, encouragement, and practical support.
* Support pupils in developing positive attitudes, resilience, confidence, and improved behaviour.
* Help identify individual needs and develop strategies to overcome barriers to learning.
* Work in partnership with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to ensure pupils receive the right support.
* Encourage positive relationships between pupils, peers, and staff.
* Monitor and track pupils' progress, providing feedback to teachers and senior leaders.
* Liaise with parents/carers and, where appropriate, outside agencies to support pupils' well-being and progress.
* Promote safeguarding, equality, and inclusion across all aspects of school life.
* Assist in creating a positive, safe, and nurturing learning environment.
Person Specification:
* Experience of working with children or young people in a school or community setting.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships.
* An understanding of the challenges pupils may face, including social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties.
* Patience, empathy, and resilience when supporting pupils with diverse needs.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
