Developer / Senior Developer - Online Ordering (Doncaster)
Next is hiring experienced developers to join our core product teams in Doncaster hub. You will be at the heart of the customer journey, managing secure, high-volume systems that power Payments, Delivery and Customer Registration for one of the largest online retail platforms in the UK. Your code will handle millions of transactions, supporting over 10 million active customers across more than 150 international sites.
About the Team
We are hiring across the Online Ordering Product Group, which sits at the heart of the customer journey, managing critical areas from the moment a customer chooses an item to the point of purchase and account management. You will join one of three high-impact, cross‑functional teams in our Doncaster hub:
* Checkout Payments – secure, compliant, and seamless payment options, including wallets, express payments and international currency.
* Checkout Delivery – deliver accurate options and expectations for our global customer base, orchestrating real‑time delivery logic across 70+ markets.
* My Account – focus on customer profile space, new customer sign‑up, authentication and associated secure onboarding integrations.
Role Overview
You will be a key player in a multi‑year strategic programme to refactor core monolith functionality into modern, cloud‑native services. This is platform engineering at retail scale, requiring an active contribution to technical design, architecture review and implementation of resilient, highly‑available systems in Azure.
Key Responsibilities
* Write, test and deploy high‑quality code from concept through to delivery and beyond.
* Apply imaginative solutions to complex problems in a demanding, fast‑paced retail environment.
* Collaborate effectively with Product Owners and other departments across the business.
* Provide development support to internal users and offer out‑of‑hours cover on a rota basis.
* Continuously improve and share expertise to drive internal best practices.
Required Technical Stack
* Microsoft‑based technologies: ASP.NET MVC, WCF Services, Web API and Azure.
* Experience in SQL Server.
* Familiarity with TypeScript and common JavaScript frameworks such as React.
* Knowledge of modern concepts and practices, including observability, automation and DevOps.
* Strong commitment to quality: defensively code, inject dependencies, unit testing.
